Empowering Women and Girls with Disabilities and Ensuring Inclusiveness and Equality in Uganda

‘If I do not meet you on IDD, I assume that you are dead.’

Persons with Disabilities from far and wide across the nation (Kween, Serere) made their way to Nakaseke District for the international celebration of their day, Disability Day.
The celebration took place at Kiwooko Primary school where it was revealed that the host district wasn’t chosen by accident but rather for the high levels of disability the district faced after the peace and liberation struggle.

Speeches and celebrations were all about the theme ‘Empowering Persons with Disabilities and Ensuring Inclusiveness and Equality’, and Government Ministries committed themselves to ensure the inclusiveness of Persons with Disabilities in all sectors but more so employment for economic development.

The day is celebrated worldwide on the 3rd of December and Persons with Disabilities feel that it is their day to meet and catch up with each other. A reveller was overheard saying,

The Ministry of Health Health camp saw to the acquisition of mobility devices for Persons with Disabilities in attendance which we at Nuwodu Uganda felt was a wonderful end to the occasion.
